Permit of stay – Permesso di soggiorno

Within eight days from entering Italy with a visa, the visa holder must apply for the permit of stay. The application is usually submitted at the post office by completing the forms included in the postal kit provided there, and attaching the required documents depending on the type of permit requested. The application is then sent to the local Questura, the authority responsible for processing applications and issuing residence permits.
