2.Check your local Italian consulate website and book an appointment. Please note that some consulates schedule appointments many months away. You may want to secure an appointment early use the time before it to gather the necessary documents.

3.Once you arrive in Italy with your visa, you must apply for the permit of stay within eight days of your arrival. The authority responsible to grant permits of stay is the local Questura. Likely you will need to submit your application by sending the yellow kit through the Post Office (Poste Italiane Sportello Amico).

4.Lastly, you need to register at the anagrafe of the comune where you live. Some municipalities may register you provisionally and confirm your registration once you obtain your permit. Others will register you only once the permit has been granted.

EU CITIZENS
For EU citizens, the move is “easier”.

EU citizens do not need a visa. They need to register at the anagrafe of the comune where they intend to live. However, they need to fulfil some requirements, and prove they can support themselves.
